I guess i can do some browser and OS detection and write variations on the
same style sheet to adjust for font size...
Thanks for the tip! I have not found this mentioned anywhere.

in my experience, netscape doesn't render odd-numbered-sizes. for example, 
i often use 11px, and netscape generally renders that as 10px. (it rounds 
down). so, i suspect that your 9px; is being rendered at 8px, which _is_ 
small for the web....  try compromising to 10px.  (true cross platform also)

on top of that, yes, you need to be slightly flexible between platforms. 
while css lets you set things to a specific pixel size, there is still 
_some_ difference. nothin' you can do about it, AFAIK.
