And just to confirm that (almost) no-one thinks NT/W2k is particularly
robust:

Memo from Martin P Burns of PricewaterhouseCoopers

-------------------- Start of message text --------------------

Hi Nick

I don't think that article mentioned Windows anywhere. I think the greater
point of comparison is commercial Unices and similar like HPUX and
Solaris.

The game is clearly reassurance of business buyers, who still have the
mindset of "This open source thing, it's not really robust or stable or
secure"

If the message gets through that Linux is not inherantly insecure, even if
some distros are (in their default installs), then it will increasingly
make it
to shortlists where it can be considered on its merits.

Martin

HP have announced they are releasing their own Linux distro.

The major selling point is that theirs apparently has security features
that
have long been lacking in Linux.

"One of the major criticisms of Linux in the past has been that it doesn't
offer the higher security needed by business computing environments."

Compared to what?

http://www.cnn.com/2001/TECH/ptech/08/23/new.linux.os.idg/

What am I missing here? Tell me if I am wrong but how could Windows ever be
accused of being more secure than Linux?
