Yup, and doing so obviously, whereas if your whole site is
based on SSIs and is on Apache (mine is), you can set
the server to parse .html extensions with .htaccess.

If you don't do that, you'll be editing .htaccess
anyway to ensure that http://www.domain.com/
looks for http://www.domain.com/index.shtml
as well as/rather than index.html

At some point, I'll document a bunch of SSI/XSSI stuff
I use in my site as an evolt tutorial.
