I ended up using HTTP::BrowserDetect which works great.

Thanks for your comments.

Subject: Perl Question user agent

<snip>
Is there a module that parses out the USER_AGENT cgi variable and returns
browser type, operating system.
</snip>

I haven't used HTML::ParseBrowser but it's listed at CPAN. Documented at
http://search.cpan.org/doc/DODGER/HTML-ParseBrowser-0_5/ParseBrowser/ParseBr
owser.pod and downloadable at
http://search.cpan.org/search?dist=HTML-ParseBrowser .
