    Unfortunately, this won't work with certain form elements -- namely, the
<select> element in IE4+. The select element does not participate in the
z-index order, and either its visibility property must be set to "hidden" or
its display property to "none". Of course, since in this case it is the
select element which is being recreated in dhtml, perhaps Matt can do away
with all true selects; all other elements should participate within the
z-index order.
    Netscape 4.x has additional elements which will shine through dhtml
layers, with a much more complicated solution scenario.
