Which is fine for when you know *exactly* what you want.

Basic IA knowledge is that users have 2 modes of enquiry:
*) Known item
*) unknown item

It's the latter which navigation and taxonomy primarily support.

Also remember that many sites with shopping have content around
it, particularly if you're not dealing in simple commodities. If you have
to explain stuff to the user (like if you'd never had kids and had to buy
books for them - you'd need help to make a sensible selection),
you need content around it.

Navigation does not come that high on my list for shopping sites, price and
customer service are my priorities. As long as there is a search box that
