hi craig

that's neat, but i always thought that when you click on a
<a href=#top>top</a> link and there wasn't a <a name=top></a>
anchor available, the browser just reloaded the doc and
left you sitting at the top by default

i think there were some older browsers (netscape?) that used to send you to
the bottom, i.e. they scanned the doc and stopped when they got to the end
and didn't find the anchor

i've also seen   <body  id="top">  but i'm not sure how cross-browser it is
