... collected in an array that's converted from a comma-delimited list.
there's no guarantee that the number of elements in the array will match the
number of form fields the user encountered.  it could be less which would
mean some of the form fields didn't have values in them or it could be more
if the form allowed input from the user and they entered a value with a
comma.

actually it abstracts data into another medium from functionality that
already exists.
