hi

Headhunters are a lot of things.

I was manager of Systems Engineering for a telephone mfg and did not have
the time to go find staff. So working with a headhunter, providing specs
that gave real definition to the job. the recruiter would look over a group
of possibles. select from 3 to 5 and send resumes. the recruiter (she)
would speak on the telephone with me to further define the task. she would
also coach her candidates on the task and even do a pre interview work up.
when they arrived, one per day, they were pumped up, ready to go and
enthusiastic.

The one thing she had to sell was their skill and just as sure as the
supermarket spays water on the lettuce to make it look fresh, she did every
thing she could to enhance her chances. she knew our company, our people,
everything.

one day i mentioned that we would have a force reduction. her question was
not when but who. I did a rundown with no name. the reduction came on a
Friday and Monday he interviewed at the new company, started Wednesday with
an increase of 5K. She had the opening to fill and was delighted. I think
I was the only one unhappy because I knew what we had lost.

the term is sometimes appropriate but the good ones are wonderful. and
easily worth their fee.

peace
