and if the user clicks a link to another part of the site, the 
breadcrumb can be used to give the user his/her location within the 
site... perhaps suddenly the user sees he/she is in the product 
support section instead of the faq section, meaning the next time 
he/she returns, he/she might actually go right into the correct 
section, decreasing speed to access...

and that, IMO, is a good thing...

sort of like a de facto, context sensitive site map...
