Adobe probably doesn't even realize that adobe.com does not
resolve. Perhaps everyone who works there has www.adobe.com
bookmarked, all of their visitors are savy enough to retype it, and
the question just never came up. Or, the sys admin got his hackles
up when it was pointed out and he's never going to back down
(wouldn't suprise me at all if a pre-web company like adobe is
being held hostage by a unix sys nazi, it happens to lots of big
companies).

I've noticed that instances of domain.com resolving to
www.domain.com increased in proportion to cobalt raq sales. Last I
looked Sun/Cobalt was shipping over 1 million domain capacity per
month. Cobalt raqs will accept a no host (domain.com) as an alias
in the DNS server but you cannot run a virtual domain without the
www, or some other host, on the webserver, it screws up the cobalt
admin. As a result doman.com resolves out to www.domain.com.
BUT, it resolves only if you specify domain.com to resolve to
www.domain.com, it's not automatic.

Many raq admins expect/want/need Linux/Apache admin to be
windows point-n-click easy and never do add the extra alias, A
record, or MX record for that matter. Requiring www in the location
bar is one thing, but requiring an email address like
me at www.domain.com is just totally weird. Yet many raqs remain
set up to work that way.

What does an adobe email address look like?
name at www.adobe.com?
