[thelist] Stretchy left column background

My site has a left column nav bar with a background image. Now, once the
nav elements end, the column background image should (ideally) keep
going until it meets the horizontal blue bar at the footer. But it's
not. And it's ugly.

How can I get the background image in the left column to keep repeating
until the column ends?
