hi josh

by fluid, do you mean liquid? width adjusts itself to the browser window?

that's hard to do well ;o)

glish is good -- i *love* how those images float down into that box!

there's a decent css positioning overview at
  http://www.brainjar.com/css/positioning/default.asp

bluerobot has a couple of templates, with explanation, at
  http://www.bluerobot.com/web/layouts/

don't go to eric meyer's css/edge, though, until you have a couple of css
layouts under your belt, because what that man can do with css will simply
blow you away --
  http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/css/edge/

you could also visit webnouveau.net, which links to some 500 web sites that
use css instead of tables (shameless plug: i'm #448)
