[thelist] Apache, WinME and .htaccess

Good Morning!

Has anyone ever succeeded in resctricting directory access on Apache running
on WinME?
I have created my .htaccess and .htpasswd files as per instructions. This
didn't work.
I also tried renaming the "." files to htaccess.txt, etc (and changed the
directive in httpd.conf), since I figured Windows wouldn't like files named
as such. This also does not work. Is this even possible on Win9x?
