Yes, Cold Fusion does complement Flash nicely. Since they are made by
the same company, there are a lot of extras and documentation out there
for them. However, Cold Fusion can't do anything to complement flash
that the other server-side languages can't do (ASP,PHP,Perl,etc.).
Back to the original question, why would you use a server side language
(cold fusion)? Flash and Cold Fusion together just make a regular
dynamic webpage with a pretty interface. You might think of Flash and
HTML as interfaces while Cold Fusion is a program that makes the
interfaces on the fly. You should make sure that you understand what
cold fusion is and does before you dish out a grand to macromedia.
You can get the 30 day trial version of cold fusion server from the
macromedia website. http://www.macromedia.com/software/coldfusion/
