you're running in to an age-old problem with the whole "header/footer"
template idea.

that's one way to do it, but i'd suggest that outputting html in your
application.cfm file is sloppy.  that's probably because i consider the
application.cfm file to be intended for initializing the application and its
variables.  it's probably also because having application.cfm output html
means just that much more stuff in the file and makes it very difficult to
wrap your content in different templates on the fly.

well, the answer will depend on how much you need to alter the <body> tag.
what exactly do you need to do to it?
