My impression is that meta tags are indexed just like body content, but not
weighted a lot higher like they used to be. And, of course, SOME search
engines (particularly smaller engines that might be in use for specific
projects or sites, etc) do still use meta tags... my position is that it is
better safe than sorry and one might as well be prepared in case next month
someone wants to implement HTDig or Atomz or another engine that can use
Meta tags. Why not be prepared? The description tag is often used as the
search results abstract, so it should be readable. But that just makes good
sense anyway!
