Memo from Martin P Burns of PricewaterhouseCoopers

-------------------- Start of message text --------------------

By some minor miracle of coincident timing, the Disability Rights
Commission has published an updated code of practise to the Disability
Discrimination Act 1995 (ie "How the law will be interpreted in the real
world, with lots of helpful examples")
http://www.drc.org.uk/drc/Documents/Code%20of%20Practice.pdf

There's a wee pullout of all the web-related info at
http://www.out-law.com/php/page.php3?page_id=ukwebsitesmustbe1014813950
(registration required)

If you don't want to wade through the 187 page document (less than it
sounds as it's large print), and don't want to register, then the
interesting bits are the number of (made up) examples of services which
would be considered as covered by the law, including "An airline company
provides a flight reservation and booking service to the public on its web
site. This is a provision of a service and is subject to the Act."

Also, in its examples of how companies can provide alternative access to
services, every single one suggests "An accessible website" as one of the
options.

Cheers
Martin
