serendipity doo dah

i wouldn't have learned about SHOW CREATE TABLE if i hadn't replied to the
tinyint problem, even though i didn't need to reply, since unbeknownst to
me, the problem was solved earlier...

<tip type="discussion list subject lines">

yes, it's a good idea to change subject lines when the topic has changed
significantly, but if you are just modifying the subject line, please make
the modifications at the end of the line rather than the beginning

so instead of

   Re: [thelist] solved - weird MySQL insert problem

please change it to

   Re: [thelist] weird MySQL insert problem - solved

the reason is that when you sort posts by subject, the
second subject line will sort together with all the related posts
and not get totally overlooked

this will save people trying to solve a problem that has already been
solved

</tip>

there were approximately 3300 posts in february and there's no way people
will read all of them sequentially as they come in -- so sorting by subject
line is inevitable, especially for people who do not choose to read every
post (i hate to admit this, but there are certain subjects i totally skip)
