Hi,
If you want to have your work taken seriously XHTML is the only choice.
If you write for an audience who might be using WYSIWYG editors, you could
start with some articles on how to customize the templates and other tricks
to get the various WYSIWYG  editors setup for XHTML - that's a topic that
still has some scope.
You might also try to break down the barrier people have towards XHTML -
it's really nothing special, just HTML a little better defined.
