But Netscape/Win has the setting as well (can't answer for IE6). Though
according to the tests I've made, it doesn't work. However, it works quite
well in IE5/Mac, and not at all well in Mozilla/Mac (I had to quit and
re-launch the browser to see the change).

A page with the following code in it:

should show you the difference. Under "normal" Win settings, the first
should be larger than the second, whereas with traditional Mac browsers the
two should be the same size. Changing the Netscape/Win setting from 96 to
72 doesn't, however, change the size of the first font. Were I guessing,
I'd say they didn't feel it necessary to connect the UI widget to anything
in Windows, though why this would be better than removing the UI widget
completely is beyond me.
