[thelist] how "heavy" do you make each page?

<snip>
Do you have a rule of thumb for how large each page
is when you DO NOT have a seperate page for low
bandwidth and high bandwidth?
</snip>
I tend to use the "7-Second Rule", which indicates that a page (with all
associated graphics, etc) should way no more than 30-35k once you have
subtracted any server-side technology (ASP, PHP). I sometimes fudge a little
on pages beyond the first page if there is a major (like a logo) graphic
that repeats on each page because the browser should reload that image from
cache.
It's the old LCD...if x of my visitors have 28.8k bandwidth then I must be
clean when designing.
