[thelist] Why an IP address, not a domain name?

More along the lines of the IP may have a domain name associated with it,
but that their DNS providers or DNS servers haven't bothered to set up
reverse dns for that other domain.  That IP address could just be another
box right next to it, or even a second NIC that doesn't have rev dns
pointed.
