[thelist] web log-file rotating

What is a good utility for rotating logfiles? The server I'm on defaults to
the Linux logrotate program. The only problem I have is that it
automatically renames the files with a generic .1, .2, .3 and it pushes up
one number every time it rotates, so .1 becomes .2, .2 becomes .3, etc.

I want to rotate and append the current date to the logfile instead so that
it is clear what each file contains. I don't think it's possible to do this
with logrotate after looking through the man pages, or am I missing
something?

Jake
