Sales commission or finder's fee, especially in the absence of a contract,
should not be a standard % of sale contract value unless a cost-of-sale has
been factored into the price and even then you have to consider what your own
cost-of-sale is. Any commission or fee % to be considered, should be a % of
your post-tax profit on the work only and then only what you can afford,
small (if the 3rd party introducer or salesman is unlikely to make more new
introductions or sales for you) larger (if also an investment in getting new
business, in which case agree a contract for this).
