Hey, I'm not complaining about validating to HTML standards for their
own good, nor am I complaining about cross-browser compatibility. Those
are good things, but yes, in your case, they're 'nice to have'

But working within legal requirements? Do they have to explicitly
mention that? Do they have to tell you not to endanger the health and
safety of your co-workers? Do they have to tell you not to steal the
computers? No, you're expected to know the law covering the stuff you do.

Did they give you an explicit exemption from any of these legal areas?
Wouldn't have thought so either.

I'm sure Jeff can answer for himself, but I would have thought that
http://members.evolt.org/jeff/code/ may give you a better picture of his
attitude towards dHTML.

As for me, yes, I quite like dHTML and JS. But not at the expense of
making the site inaccessible, either by requiring it to be functional at
all, or by coding it to break accessible features provided by browser
manufacturers at great expense and care.

(also in time/money limited projects (and most projects are), you need
to ask some hard questions as to whether the time spent coding dHTML
menus could have been better spent elsewhere)

If your employer liked embezzeling funds, would you do it for him and
argue that it wasn't A Bad Thing? (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0111161)

Cheers
