[thelist] PHP? ASPNet?

I'm a self taught web designer and, so far, have been able to accommodate all of my clients requests with ASP or PERL.  I see PHP
mentioned a lot on this list.  What advantages does PHP have over ASP or PERL or is it something completely different?

Also what does ASPNet buy me?  My main ISP doesn't support ASPNet and is hesitant to go with it for fear of messing up all their
current ASP sites.
