It's not bad. Mostly closing tags. You know, <br /> instead of <br>. That
sort of thing.

Question: Why use the redirect from index.html? Why not simply make
index.php the server's default file?

Something to consider: displaying the "last modifed" date with an SSI or
other server-side mechanism. That way it gets shown even if a surfer has JS
turned off. I know the comment system requires JS, so it's not a Big Thing.
Apart from that, you'll need to wrap your JS in a CDATA block to pass
validation, but you shouldn't have any trouble at all getting it to pass
with a minimal effort.
