For what it's worth, I much prefer the "you are here" breadcrumbs, which
simply tell me where I am in the site hierarchy.  This is especially
helpful if I've arrived on a page from Google, an off-site link, or even a
cross-site link from one branch of your site to another.

Path breadcrumbs are already maintained in the browser, IMHO, just by
peeking under the "back" button.
