Do you have access to httpd.conf?
If yes then are the necessary php directives still there?

Subject: [thelist] php web site bad config?

Hi all,

All of a sudden my website pixelmech.com is asking you if you want to
download index.php, instead of showing the page. I have shared
hosting with bootbox.net (its free in fact), I'm guessing they made
some changes or its some kind of config error? Is there anything I
can do?

My .htaccess is

DirectoryIndex index.php
ErrorDocument 404 /404.php

Tom
