Thank you all so far
I am not getting the error anymore for not finding domain (since I created an
empty apache folder the pid has somewhere to be written to!)
But I cannot get http://localhost/ on my machine, which is for testing locally,
local!
I have set the domain to both localhost and 127.0.0.1 which doesn't make any
difference either way?
I am still getting the php dll file errors?

I think you said it was on win 98. Your fully qualified domain for
ServerName is 127.0.0.1
