[thelist] CSS Layouts

I'm taking the leap, and building my first XHTML/CSS site.
(/me pats myself on the back...)

I'm trying to accomplish this layout in CSS:


(this DIV is aligned center within the browser window)

I can recreate the two-column part (not align center), and I can
recreate the align-center part (without the two columns), but every time
I try and combine the two, the column part blows up. Thoughts?
