Just in case you've not looked at the obvious, ensure your client is
using the correct username.  (this is not meant to be facetious!)

Clients hosting with me need to use their full email address as the
username.  (Your setup of course may be entirely different.)  Despite
pointing this out as clearly as possible, I continually have new clients
saying they can't access their mail account, and in 99.9% of cases it is
because they've got this detail incorrect and are trying 'namex' instead
of 'namex at domain.com' for username.  OE (and Mozilla for that matter)
won't report the error though, and just time out.
