Karen:

The form belongs to the outer page, which in turn does not belong to me. I
can do nothing to change the code.

Regarding permissions, I am just integrating several resourses that a
cataloguer needs to consult frequently, such as Library of Congress Online
Catalog, into an application (noncommercial) to be used by cataloguing staff
at my University Library. It's not to be exhibited in a public site, so I
guess there are no permissions involved... but I accept all kind of
clarifications.

Going back to my original question, I would like to know why, if an iframe
really creates its own window object, a script running in that window would
produce an error when trying to set focus on a form that lives inside that
same window...

Thanks for your help,

Fernando Gómez
