Thanks very much Darren for the reply and information.

My first impression of the visual studio .net IDE is that its Homesite on amphetamine! or may be that should be Dreamweaver if it 'does things' to you code !

So it shouldn't matter which language I choose ?

What I find a bit off putting about VB6 orientated exams is the desktop application focus in the beginning stages of the MCSD. I would think that more so now - windows DNA type of apps will be dropped altogether in favor of web browser based clients as they are light weight, much more deployable and accessable any where there is a web browser so for this reason I'm edging towards the .NET exams which in my limited experience seems to be much more geared towards scalable 'Web Applications' whether this be desktop browsers or mobile devices.

Also if I'm reading http://www.go-mono.org/ the old mind set of 'Microsoft lock-in is Bad' might not be such an issue if eventually the projects produced with the .NET framework can run on a Linux CLR implementation as well ??
Following on from this does the fact that XML/web services is used in a big way with .NET mean that there is a higher compatibility with Java and any other language that has all of the XML parsing proceedures in place ?
