[thelist] Rounded tables- the CSS way?

I am sure everyone here knows the old trick of using a table with 2 (or
4) images to get that "rounded rectangular" area around text, where you
dump text in the middle cells, and the design changes according to the
amount of text / window width.

Now, how do you achieve this effect with a tabless css layout?

What was a brainless trick is now a tough challenge the moment I ditch
tables :-(
