[thelist] bobby is driving me crazy

howdy evolters

when i try to check
http://www.demos.ac.uk/welcome.html with the online
version of bobby
(http://bobby.watchfire.com/bobby/html/en/index.jsp)
it gives me this error:

"Connection Error: Bobby has experienced a problem
connecting to this URL. Please try again."

i've asked the server dude and he claims it's not a
server problem on our side but suggested there's a
problem with the doctype declaration, so i removed it
on a test page (http://www.demos.ac.uk/test.html) and
checked that.  that worked for one moment (except that
the page didn't pass the bobby test because there was
no doctype)  and when i tried it again it didn't work
again.

i'm starting to pull out my hair here.  does bobby not
like my doctype?  and when i remove it how comes it
validates it once and not the next time?  personally i
don't think it has anything to do with my doctype
because i uploaded some random pages to my personal
site and tested them from there and that worked fine.

any clues to solving this mystery are deeply
appreciated.

i'd just like to add that i'm not a great fan of bobby
because it's forcing web designers to apply 'hacks'
just to please it.  but it's important that this site
passes because for many people bobby is god and if
bobby says 'repair needed' these people think and
claim in reports that the site is not accessible.
