there's the built-in debugger in cf studio, but i don't personally know anyone who actually uses it.  if you're getting an http 500 error, there are other problems to deal with than the coldfusion code in the details3.cfm template.

what are the details of the machine the coldfusion server is intalled on?  what are the details of the server software?

coldfusion comments use three hyphens on the beginning and end:

<!--- coldfusion comment --->

<!-- html comment -->

turn on debugging in the administrator.  make sure to add your ip address to the ip addresses allowed to see debugging.  start there and work your way up to more thorough means of debugging.
