[thelist] Web services - what's the difference?

'Web services' have been around for a while but the difference now is that
it is infused with a more common language -XML. To use web services, to make
remote procedure calls without XML we need to be versed in whichever
language the remote application uses.

Of course there is CORBA and other similar architectures for creating web
services but I think XML is more appealing because it has more flexibility
in its use.
