The W3C editor/browser Amaya (http://www.w3.org/Amaya/) works well as an
XHTML validator.  Just open a page (DOCTYPE required) and it'll alert you
if it's invalid.
There are versions available for Windows, Linux and Solaris.

And it validates properly, not just a lint.
