It's my new default answer for community-based sites.

Subject: [thelist] Suggestion for Backend

> A client has come up wanting to create a site that will be used to publish
tutorials. As such, I was thinking that I would try and find an open source
backend that I can customize for this purpose. Here are the features that I
am looking for :

Supports HTML markup in blogs/site pages/etc., so judicious use of <code>
and CSS should do this no problem

> (*) Can generate/read RSS feeds

Most parts of Drupal are available as separate RSS feeds; every user blog
can generate a separate RSS feed; the "news feeds" section allows for the
addition of arbitrary RSS feeds

> (*) Statistic methods (most popular tutorials, etc.)
All tracked using the statistics module, but don't know how much of it is
available as out of the box -- there are changes in CVS currently

Has stuff like "today's top", "all time top", and even "last nodes viewed"

> (*) User comments
Very much so. You can turn moderation on/off on a case by case basis, and
even allow "promotion" to the front page based on user moderation.

> (*) Forums
Check.
