I was searching for a open-source CMS designed specifically for newspapers, and ended up with CoFAX.
It is designed specifically for newspaper sites, and comes with three example sites (each with different sizes).
Requires JSP (so grab your friendly copy of Tomcat). Runs with almost any ODBC compliant database server,
and I ran it with no problems on mySQL.
