no offense taken.  you'll be unpleasantly surprised to find that most video
cards on the market now don't offer 24 bit as an option.  as to the
specifics of my video card, i'm on a dell latitude laptop running NVidia
GeForce4 440 Go.  another machine here is running an ati card that also
doesn't offer 24 bit.  if i had to wager a guess, i'd say that's because 32
bit is really 24 bit with an 8 bit alpha channel, hence no real need to have
both 24 bit and 32 bit options since the 32 bit is the same with an added
bonus.

nope, just your typical laptop being used as a workstation.
