MySQL doesn't have a concatenation operator. Try the CONCAT() function:
UPDATE foo SET bar = CONCAT(baz, "qux") ...
Each RDBMS seems to have its own method of doing it. PostgreSQL's
concatenation operator is '||'. If in doubt, refer to your vendor's
documentation :)
