anthony, you forgot one option:

split your style sheet into two -- one contains colours, fonts, and
everything else that netscape 4.7 can handle, the other contains only those
few declarations that make netscape 4.7 barf -- and then withhold the second
using @import

voila, one version of the site

the way i figure, the people who insist on using netscape 4.7 are not wrong,
they are totally right, and the neat part is, they cannot see how it looks
in other browsers, right?  so how do they compare it to what they are
"supposed" to see

of course, if you have done all kinds of fancy tricks like weird positioning
and floats and negative margins and <voice type="don cherry">stuff like that
there</voice>, then the netscape 4.7 look and feel is going to be somewhat
linear, but it will still look okay
