"negligible" is inversely proportional to the processing power of the client
machine, its ram, and how many other programs are running and chewing up
processor cycles and memory.  i've seen too many average joe user computers
with tons of crap running to know there often isn't much left to spare.

i don't know about you, but i try to write the most compact, most readable,
fastest executing scripts possible.  i don't like making users wait (even
milliseconds) longer than necessary.  so, if you know it can be done without
the eval() method what is your motivation for using it -- obfuscation?
