Many years ago I did the publicity for MapInfo and with the basic product
and MapBasic (their programming language) you could do that. With the
addition of a live module you could track vehicles and so on in real time ..
great for taxis and lorries/trucks with expensive loads.
At the time they were mid-priced, about £1,000 for the basic software. I
also worked for Atlas GIS who offered lower priced solutions but then pulled
out of the UK.
