[thelist] Layers and Scrollbars on Macs

In that case I will persevere!  I thought it was probably something like
this, but even when I remove all the content and just fill the inner layer
with line-breaks it still shows, apparently?  But, I'm going to wait until I
have access to a Mac to test it on - then it should be easier to solve the
problem.
