well, since you put it that way, here's my suggestion

do not go down that path

write your stylesheets in a manner such that you do not have to serve up a
different stylesheet for each different browser

for example, you mention "netscape 4.x, netscape 6.x + and explorer 5.x +"

if you stop there, you will definitely alienate some visitors

what about opera? safari? aol? karmeleon? konkerer? iweb? icab? idunno?

repeat: do not go down that path, life's just too short
