actually, this is only work for hire if he's an employee of the
organization.  if it's not a work for hire, then technically he owns
copyright to everything except the content itself, unless explicitly passed
on to the organization, in which case he could justify placing credits in
the html or within the design so long as it's not part of the content
itself.

however, legalities aside, pushing this issue is likely to create more
hassle than it's worth.  so, it's probably best to just back down and remove
the credit (for now).
